Simon Neal: Average wind direction

Hi

I live in Handbridge. I'm trying to get some idea of where the wind "usually" blows from in the locality. I'm trying to think about the impact of a commercial kitchen exhaust system on my home. Planning application is in at the moment for a new take away in Queens Park View, with the stink stack planned for 10m away from my back door. Anyone have the data?

Geoff Nelder: and

Your rain is also showing 0.5mm. But there has been none for days. I can only surmise that your gauge has been the recipient of a lawn sprinkler!

Geoff Nelder: temperature error today?

22 nd May 2010 at 1720 you have your temp at 28.2C but mine is 25.5

Mine are PSI certified mercury thermometers (Max /min, wet / dry bulbs) and an electronic temperature sensor with radio output. All are in a Stevenson screen at the correct height.

Until today your temperatures and mine have always been within one degree and often equal. I am in Lache Hall Crescent so not far enough from you for microclimate effects unless your instruments are in a hot spot.

It would be good to have a photo or diagram of your set up.

Best

Geoff Nelder: site changes

Really like the new look.

Just for info, I created and read the met station at Queens Park High School from 1978 to 2002. We used PSI certificated instruments until 1995 when an automated station was set up on the roof. I used to enjoy being on the roof clearing leaves and a nest from the rain gauge or calibrating the anemometer. Sadly since I left QPHS the computer has been disconnected. The instruments remain on the roof, gathering data and no one to read them...

Helen Makin: FEED THE BIRDS

Don't forget to feed the birds as the weather is so cold. Nuts, seeds, fruit, dried fruit, bread, cake, suet treats, seeds and meal worms are all gobbled up by the birds in my garden. Don't forget some water too.
